Melanotan II (10mg) is a research-use peptide for laboratory studies involving cosmetic-adjacent models, signaling-focused pathways, and structured peptide workflow design.
Description
Melanotan II (MT-II) is a cyclic lactam analogue of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) developed at the University of Arizona in the 1980s as a more potent and metabolically stable variant. It acts as a non-selective agonist across the melanocortin receptor family (MC1R–MC5R), with primary research applications in pigmentation biology, energy homeostasis, and melanocortin pathway pharmacology.
Why Researchers Select Melanotan II
As a pan-melanocortin agonist, MT-II activates the full receptor spectrum with high potency: MC1R (pigmentation, melanogenesis in melanocyte models), MC3R and MC4R (hypothalamic energy balance, feeding behavior), and MC5R (exocrine gland function). This broad receptor profile makes it useful for studying the complete melanocortin system, while its high potency and stability versus native α-MSH make it a practical tool compound. For receptor-selective studies, its derivative PT-141 (MC3R/MC4R selective) or targeted antibodies are used in parallel for comparison.
Common Research Applications
- Melanocortin receptor family (MC1R–MC5R) pharmacology
- Melanogenesis and pigmentation pathway studies in melanocyte models
- Hypothalamic energy homeostasis and feeding behavior research
- Receptor selectivity mapping (comparative with PT-141)
- α-MSH pathway biology reference studies

Storage Instructions
All our research peptides are manufactured using a lyophilization (freeze-drying) process. This method is designed to maintain product integrity and allows vials to remain stable during shipping for approximately 3–4 months.
Once a vial is reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, it should be stored in the refrigerator to help maintain stability. Under these conditions, reconstituted material is generally considered stable for up to 30 days.
Lyophilization is a dehydration technique in which compounds are frozen and then exposed to low pressure. This causes the water in the vial to sublimate directly from solid to gas, leaving behind a stable, crystalline white structure. This powder can be kept at room temperature until reconstitution.
Upon receipt, products should be stored away from heat and light. For short-term use, refrigeration at approximately 4°C (39°F) is suitable. For long-term storage (several months to years), vials may be placed in a freezer at approximately -80°C (-112°F). Freezing is the preferred method for preserving product stability over extended periods.
