Glutathione (600mg) is a research-use product for laboratory studies involving metabolic pathways, energy-balance models, and structured workflow design.
Description
Glutathione (γ-L-Glutamyl-L-cysteinylglycine, 600mg) is the most abundant intracellular antioxidant tripeptide in mammalian cells, present at millimolar concentrations in most cell types. It is synthesized in two ATP-dependent enzymatic steps: first by glutamate-cysteine ligase (GCL) combining glutamate and cysteine, then by glutathione synthetase adding glycine. As both an antioxidant and a signaling molecule, GSH occupies a central position in redox biology research.
Why Researchers Select Glutathione
GSH scavenges reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species directly, acts as the substrate for glutathione peroxidases (GPx1–4) in H₂O₂ and lipid hydroperoxide detoxification, and conjugates electrophilic compounds via glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) for export. GSH/GSSG ratio is the primary indicator of cellular redox status and is used to assess oxidative stress in virtually every cell biology model. Additionally, glutathionylation — the reversible post-translational modification of cysteine residues by GSH — is a major redox signaling mechanism regulating numerous enzymes and transcription factors.
